Did Ontario knives discontinue the RAT 1 folder? Don't see it in their online catalog.

Believe I answered my own question. The RAT Cutlery website states their RAT 1 knife was discontinued since it did not support their made in USA commitment. So I assume Ontario Knives can't manufacture and sell them any more since the design belongs to RAT. I should have researched this more before I posted.

if you really want one ,you can find them at a price below $60.00 :) i have one that is made in taiwan and i think it's a great knife for the price! :D

You may be right, but... Are you sure that RAT cutlery has the authority to discontinue another companies product? We are talking about two different companies, and RC did not exist as a manufacturer when they produced the RAT 1 under Ontario. Even if RC owns the rights to the design, Ontario may still be able to make it under a license.

Ontario does not list a lot of the stuff they make on their web site. It is very outdated.

Thanks Jack. I own one and was thinking about getting a second. RAT Cutlery has a new folder in the works and I may just wait on that one.

No I am not sure Ontario has discontinued the RAT 1. Just going by not seeing it in their online catalog and reading RAT Cutlery's position. You may be right. Beats me.

I would be sad if no one was making it. It is probably the best folder of its size for the money.

It sure is a beater for the price and the quality. I would overlook the made in tag and just go ahead with it. I have 2 of them and simply dig em.

I'll have to agree with you Maverick. The knife sure seems to be well made for the price point. I like the full flat grind blade. Enough belly that I believe it would make a good skinner. Definitely good for campsite chores. I like the heft of the knife and love the way it sits in my hand.

As far as I know, Ontario is still selling the Rat-1 folder. Any questions about the folder have to be brought to Ontario. RAT Cutlery has no further interest in it and plans to produce their own in the indeterminate future.

Thanks Esav. I sent Ontario an e-mail to see what their position is. Based on the other RC knives out there now, the new RC folder is sure to be a fine product.

Not sure if it is discontinued.I have seen them as low as 24.95:cool:

Bugger - I paid $25.95. I'm very happy with it though - it would be hard to find a better folder for the same money. When mine is locked there is no up/down or side-to-side play - it feels really good and solid. You could use one of these hard and it would take it - even if you break it, it cost less than thirty bucks so you could just buy another.

(( deal-spotting ))

if anyone is interested. $25 + $3.20 for shipping. Under $30 to your door. I'm gettin one for my wifey!!
