Was never too fond of the factory scales that came with my RAT 1, and didnt want to spend the $30+ on custom scales. So yesterday i started messing around with a metal file and some sandpaper and this was my end result. 10x more grip than the slippery factory finish on the FRN scales.

I just did stippling on my RAT 1, I always put stippling on my knives that come with plastic scales. I refuse to pay 30-60 dollars to get scales that are marginally better than the stippled plastic ones. I'd put stippling on my pistols too, if I didn't care about the resale value, I just use talon grips instead.

Booya, I don't care about how pretty something is, only how well it functions.

Can either of you tell me whether the scales on our RAT 1s is solid right through, or hollowed out inside? I'd like to try something, but don't want to end up going too deep and hitting a hollow area...

Thanks in advance!

Sorry, I can't answer that for you, I haven't removed my scales. But I did go pretty deep in some spots and didn't break through.
