Ontario RAT 1 or kershaw Cryo 2?

Hmm..
Rat is probably a better slicer,, liner lock
Cryo is more stout, tougher lock,, more fun to open...
I'd go with the Rat all day

I love sons Cryo2 in hand, weight balance steel flipper..., but it needs traction help, might try skateboard tapes, or there is a new traction / grip material I will try on next months budget from Fenix called "gear gripz", G10 rat answers the traction issue out of the box.

They are both great EDC knives but they fill different roles in my opinion. The Rat 1 is a better slicer/food prep/deer skinning/outdoorsy kind of knife. The Cryo 2 is much more "tactical" and more of a hard use knife.

I'd say overall that the Rat 1 is a better knife. I have owned both in the past but only the Rat remains.

If the cryo has a frame lock made like the lifter does go with the rat because my lifter frame lock failed on me

I've got two Cryo 2's and a RAT 1, all are good knives but the RAT is definitely the better one. I found myself using the RAT a lot more than the Cryos, it just feels more comfortable in the long run.

Between those two I would say the RAT. If you want a mix you can look at the Esee Avispa as well. It is like the RAT but a bit thinner because it is a frame lock.

Comparing the Lifter and Cryo is like comparing apples and oranges. The Cryo is a solid Chinese produced Kershaw with a decent blade steel (8cr13mov) and at least stainless handles. The Lifter is a bargain basement entry level folder with a 3cr13mov blade and handles of only God knows what. The Lifter is designed to either cut things every so often as needed or get you interested in knives and make you want more.

Don't judge Kershaw or framelocks from any brand by the Lifter if you had a bad experience.

Got both, love both, would go with Rat. buuttttt the Rat 2 is closer to the cryo size , the Rat 1 is a larger knife. I carry my Rat 2 more than my Rat 1.

Never had a Rat 1 so I cannot comment on that but the Cryo is good knife for the price but I would recommend searching out a G10 version. The standard Cryo lacks grip big time.

Rat 1. I'm not a fan of the Cryo series. Quite heavy, very slick handles and a fairly obtuse grind. Some love it, and you may be one of them, but there are literally dozens of other options in the price range I would pick up before the Cryo.
