Ontario Rat 1 Vs. Spyderco Tenaciuos

Definitely the Ontario Rat 1, being the only thing I don't like is the handle's are quiet smoother than desired when compared to the Tenacious.IMHO,the liner lock on the Ontario has more tension and locks up with a loud audible click.

Having both knives I don;t think u could go wrong with either...the ontario does have a longer blade..seems to be geared more to tougher tasks..I think the spyderco overall is a more elegant knife...but u can't loose

I also own both and prefer the Tenacious. They are both great knives however I find myself using the Tenacious the most. The Rat1 is a very usable blade shape and very comfortable in the hand. My only problem is with the thumb studs, I find the knife a little more difficult to open smoothly, usually takes several movements to get fully open. The Tenacious with the Spyderco hole opens effortlessly. I also find the blade shape and size more to my liking. THe Tenacious is like a smaller version of my full size Manix. I also prefer the G10 over the Zytel in the handle. Both click open with authority leaving no doubt to the locked open position. In the end the main factors for me are the spyde hole, G10 and blade shape.:D

I don't have RAT-1 but my Tenacious use pleasure to use. It has very assuring click when blade is locked. No bladeplay, awesome blade form and my piece has very solid lock. I can say you will not be disapointed on Tenacious.

I don't own the Rat-1 but I do have a Tenacious and I like it a lot. I dislike the the aesthetics of the Rat and although I hear it is a very good folder I just never have been able to warm up to it. The Tenacious is a great value and a great cutter.

Rat-1 is the knife I gave away because I never carried it again after I got the Tenacious. Your results may vary.

I found the RAT 1 to be incredibly smooth opening, and fast. The trick is to slide your thumb under the thumb stud. With practice I am able to open the knife all the way with one motion. My co workers thought I had an AO the first time I opened it at work.

I like my Spyderco Tenacious, but mine has the liner lock 100% and has bladeplay....but its my fault, I lost one of the bushings when I took it apart:grumpy:

I have both and am a big spyderco fan for the designs and ergo but got to say the ontario I like more, to me its just easier to carry.

Contact warranty dept at Spyderco. They sent me a replacement bushing for no charge.

Rat 1 is safer when closed, has better blade retention than the Tenacious. Rat 1 appears to have a stronger lock, more beefy. Rat 1 is safer when closing because choil closes on the lock area, while on the Tenacious the sharpened edge closes onto the lock area.

Tenacious has Spyder hole and G-10, both very nice features. They both have great blade shapes and represent great value.
