ontario rat 1

yes, but i mean what knives are like the rat 1 in terms on feel, look, contruction... so on

around 50 dollars, tough liner lock, size, the choil, ergos... etc
for a little over $50 you could get 2 Rat 1's......its a solid knife, I saw this video on youtube where this guy gave a Rat 1 to his military friend that took it to war in Afghanistan and brought it back and the knife was still good after all that hard use and still locked up solid.

i saw that too! and i love the rat 1 so much, that i was considering buying a new one, but decided to possibly expand my small collection. but im probably going to end up getting another rat 1 due to the fact that it is the toughest liner lock and most reliable folder i own

I can see that. I have had mine about three years now and use it on the job in construction. When this one finally gives up, I will just buy another. The design and sturdiness of the knife make it a real winner as a working man's knife.

Spyderco Tenacious. ~$35. An absolute bargain of a knife. Well made, good ergos, decent materials.

I picked up a RAT-1 a few weeks ago because it is frequently mentioned in this price range and I wanted to check it out.
It was a KW exclusive with grey nylon handles. For ~$30 its not a bad knife....decent construction, etc. But all in all it underwhelmed me.

Personally I think the Tenacious is by far the better knife and better deal.

I thought for a minute there that you were claiming that knives in general are fond of the Rat 1. Anyway, for another option for beefy folders, have a look at the Cold Steel Recon 1.

CS Voyager series.

Better still, with 50$ you can try various good knives: Enlan EL01, 02, 04 and 06. Size are about the same, there're liner lock, axis lock and a good lockback:Navy k631.

I saw the same video. I ordered the knife the next day. I absolutely love my Rat 1. Its a tank. I've done light batoning with it!

Looking at getting an Ontario RAT1 and was wondering what the handle is made of? Most say ergonomic handle but a couple exclusive to knifeworks say Nylon Handle. So what is the ergonomic handle?

I have two Rat-1's. I think they are one of the best deals in the knife world as far as how much knife and quality you can get for $30

There's also the crkt carson range

I can verify The CS heat treated Aus8a and edge retention is a a bit better than the rat 1 or crkt range
(although not near as good as higher steels like 154cm or s30V)
