I arrived home last night to find my D2 RAT-3 waiting.
My first impressions are very good. It was extremely well packed for shipping, and all the parts were included.
It came with a plastic "boot clip" attachment which serves very well for IWB carry. It is fairly stout, so we'll see how durable it is. The clip at the bottom is very secure, and actually kind of hard to un-clip from your belt. A good sign. It's easy to slip on, yet difficult to remove.
The TekLok is very large and provides a positive lock, but it only attaches on two points rather than the four that the boot-clip uses. It's very sturdy, but I'd like at least one more screw on there.
The blade is well finished and it seems to be very durable. It is also shaving sharp. The lettering is clear and distinct.
The handle scales are well-machined and fit the contours perfectly, there is no overlapping, and the edges are well-radiused and smooth. the blade is also plenty thick without being too heavy or bulky.
The sheath itself is thick and durable. It grabs the knife well and holds it securely.
I find the knife very comfortable and a very reasonable option for EDC. It conceals very well and is easy to grasp and draw.
If I HAD to find any flaws in this knife, I would mention that the forward hex-screw on the left side wasn't completely flush with the scale, but this may just be a matter of tightening it down once I find my hex-drivers.
Also, the blade is not ground in PERFECT uniformity, but this is only evident at the very base of the blade, and can honestly only be seen by looking very closely and squinting. I find the quality to be perfectly acceptable for a $75
knife
I am very satisfied with the RAT-3, and plan on using it as much as possible to fully evaluate it.
