So I just got a new ontario RAT-3 a few days ago. I love the knife...it's the perfect size for edc and small woods tasks. However, the sheath was so tight on the blade I fond myself struggling to remove the knife. It has since loosened up quite a bit and it's easier for me to get it out. Now I know I'm not the strongest person I know, but I'm no pansy....is this a problem that frequently occurs with the ontario verion of the blade? I feel comfortable that the blade would never fall out, but it was kind of annoying to have to put forth that much effort to remove it from the sheath. I figured I could save myself cash by buying the ontario brand, which, while not on par necessarily with the ESEE, still seems to be an excellent product. Just wondered about other's experiences with the blade and sheath.....Other than the issue with removal I love everything about this knife. Let me know what you think!

I never had that problem with mine, maybe yours just came abnormally tight. The black coating is wearing off on mine after not that much batoning, but it still seems to be a great little outdoors blade for the price.

My experience is: That no one---even ESSE, makes a sheath that i like. Custom is the way to go. Expensive, yes but it will be EXACTLY the way you want & bring you joy everytime you wear it & remove or replace it. Sheaths are personal & everyone likes something different. I personally think it is brilliant when a knife maker skimps on a cheap sheath that is barely functional, rather than giving me their rendition of one that won't work for me & making me pay extra for it, when i will have to replace it anyway. But thats just me.

I have a couple RAT-3s, and I have several ESEE 3s. I prefer the ESEEs, of course, but I've had the same issue with a couple of my ESEEs (NOT with the RAT-3s, surprisingly). They do loosen with use, but you can probably eliminate the issue by oiling the scales (I always oil them anyway to prevent uneven staining).
