Im looking to get a new knife for task's around a camp site, I have a becker-bk2 but I find that its a bit to big to do small tinkering stuff.
As I was looking around I came across the Ontario Rat-3 and it seems like it could perform the task, but I have no idea what its truly like and
was wondering if anyone has one could tell me how it performs on small-medium task, if you personally like it, how you find it performs and if I should get it.

Thanks in advance

I had the Rat-3 and later purchased the RC-4 I than gave away the RAT-3 and full enjoy the RC-4 for small to medium tasks. Most of my folders are between 3-3.5" It just gives you a little more blade and same size handle. IMO

Honestly, if you're looking for a small fixed blade of that size, the ESEE-3 would be a wiser purchase. Better fit and finish and the longer handle is worth the extra money.

Is the only real difference the handle?

I have the ESEE-3 part serrated arriving in the next couple of days and we're heading off in to the woods this weekend so I'll bash the living daylights out of it and let you know.

This made me laugh, have fun tell me how it works out. Im really eager to get a new knife

My work edc is an esee 3 and let me tell you think is one tough little knife. Im a cable installer and I have used this little guy for everything from helping me climb a pole to prying apart 10,000lb per square inch hardline strands. So if you want a solid tough small fixed blade an esee 3 is awesome. Oh and there warranty is if you break it they replace it no questions asked.

Here you go arrived today, factory fresh. Consider this the before shot and possibly the last time this knife is going to be seen pristine. Its coming camping & fishing this weekend and I have every intention of giving it a good work out.

I'll let you know how well it comes through it.

Back from our camping trip, rained and blown out but... the ESEE-3? A-Frickin-Mazing! The thing was on my hip the whole weekend and did some light battoning, feather stick, slicing for cooking. The knife worked a treat and I will be carrying this thing a LOT!
