First off, I'm new here, so hello to everyone. Been a knife nut since I was a kid. Got my first good knife when I was fourteen. Still have a lot to learn, though, and look forward to tapping on some wisdom and knowledge here, if you don't mind.

What do you all think of the Ontario Rat 5 and 7 as general purpose survival type knives? Thanks.

PS I don't see a search function, or I would have just searched for previous discussions of this subject. If there have been previous discussions, please feel free to post a link. Thank you.

Hello RH, and welcome to the forums. A quick note: the search function is turned off for non-paying members. There is, however, a way to search BF, but I'm not too sure how its done. Look around in the Service and Support Forum - I think you'll find it there. This link may help you.

As to your question on the Ontario Rat knives, there has been quite a stir about this issue recently. I would suggest you read this thread in the RAT Cutlery sub-forum before you venture further. It's 16 pages long, but there is a ton of good info on the goings on between RAT Cutlery and Ontario. Perhaps after you read it, you can reach a decision as to whether you want to pursue a knife from Ontario or not.

Understand I'm not trying to derail you, I think you should know the type of company Ontario has shown itself to be.

Hang around in the RAT sub (where this link is directs you to) and read some of the opinions of the RAT users.

Enjoy!

The RAT5 and RAT7 are great knives. I do not agree with what Ontario has done and is still doing to the RAT guys, but it does not change the fact that those two are excellent blades.
