I purchased a RAT-7 for backcountry camping. I sent the knife off to knife maker Stag&Steel to have some blaze orange G10 handles made for it for high visiblity. He is having problems removing the bolts that hold the handles on.

Anyone know if Ontario uses loc-tite on their bolts. Anyone have any tips or tricks to remove the handles.

Thanks

They don't use loctite on the RTAK II If they use it on the rat-7 I'm not sure. If they did then you can use a soldering iron placed in the hole of the screw and heat up the bolts then you should be able to remove them.

Its that or drill them out. I've modified a few myself, and I seem to remember they were very tight as well. I believe they did have loctite (red) on them. Luckilly mine came out.

My RAT-3 had locktite. You need two allen wrenches, one on each side (at least on the RAT-3). They're so small, it's easy to bend the wrenches. Use heat like Noss said.

Why not take it to the grinder unless you are trying to save the handles??

That would be the easiest.

Have you tried drilling out the rivet head on one side and then use a hammer and drift to drive out the rest of the rivet(s). The scales should then come appart.
