I just got this knife, and have not had a chance to use it. There is a great review of it in the Sept. 2004 Tactical Knives magazine. I can tell you that it looks like a great camp knife. It fills the hand just right. My friend held it and said it was begging him to throw it. He just got back from a Boy Scout camp where they were throwing tomahawks... Anyway, if you are looking for a big ( 7 inch blade ( 6.5 inch cutting surface ), full tang, green or black canvas micarta, weight is 13.2 ounces. Blades come in 1095 or D-2, plain or partially serrated. The sheath is Cordura with a Kydex liner and a pouch. Get the magazine, get the knife. You won't be dissappointed. Oh, I don't work for Tactical Knives or Ontario Knives, but you would not know by reading this...
Take care, Rob

Rob,
I agree with you about the Rat-7. I really like the knife, its a great value.

Myakka: Cool. Have you used your RAT-7, yet? Let us know when you do. I have ordered another one in 1095...thanks & take care, rob

This knife is not designed or heat-treated as a throwing knife or optimized for chopping. It has a relatively thin edge that is great for cutting, but -- especially in D-2 --it would be risky to throw or use for all-out chopping. Your $$ however.

Good choice. One of my favorite knives. I have one in both 1095 and D2. The 1095 is the one I've used the most. A very decent chopper for its size and holds an edge very well. Cuts great. I haven't used the D2 blade much, but the D2 takes a razor sharp edge.

It's got a great feel to it. You'll really enjoy it. The only thing I'd prefer is G10 for the handle instead of micarta.

Bad things have been said about the inexpensive Ontario knives, and I am not at all impressed with the Marine Combat I own. However, the Randall line of Ontario knives gets very high ratings, as does the Bagwell Bowies.
