Ontario RAT Model 1 Folder

I think it's a solid, well made knife - but IMO you can do better for the same money.
Especially with respect to the blade steel.

I agree with rifon2 I suggest waiting for the US made replacement if it's a user and not for the collection.

I would agree with the comment about the steel. AUS-8 is not the best, but for the price (~$27) it is a well made folder with four position clip and can be totally disassembled. I bought a handful as users. Even though the knife is made in Taiwan and RAT won't support them, they don't disown them. Just my $0.02.

Edit: There is a price difference between the new and old models. Look for a better price than $70. I feel sorry for the dealers stuck with the expensive inventory, but that's the state of things.

I bought them when they were more expensive. Now that they are cheap, I guess it is time to sell them, right? Another sorry investment. Not bad knives. They seem to be well made. Nice thick liners and good workmanship. The thumb stud placement is a little awkward for me. I am hoping that the new Rat Cutlery will make an American-made one soon.

It's a solid well built knife, carries very well for such a large folder.

Some of the newer ones that your seeing for much lower prices are a subject of some debate though.

After only a few months of use I retired the knife. I would not buy it again for the lone reason of the cost being too high for what is received.
