Any real difference in similar models from Ontario & Rat, i.e. steel, blade geomentry, durability, customer service, etc?

Thanks for helping on this.

Rat Cutlery's heat treat on their 1095 is better, as well as their fit and finish, coating, and warrantee.

Oh did I mention it is Jeff Randal's design in which Ontario is making after their contact has expired....

Leaving the politics aside; you will get a good knife from Ontario most of the time as their QC is hit or miss; but you will get a great knife with Rat Cutlery with a lifetime, no BS warrantee. You break it, they replace it, doesn't matter what dumb thing the person did with the knife to break it.

Yeah, what he said :thumbup::thumbup:.

have both RATS and hands down go for the RAT cutlery ones. they are just so much prettier and sturdier. plus theres a no b.s warranty which is attractive to use knife (ab)users :)

The RC's from RAT cutlery are far superior to those offered by Ontario.

Plus the guys at RAT give far better service and live to a higher standard of ethics.

There has been lots and lots of controversy over Ontario's business ethics, or lack thereof. Get a RAT. Better fit and finish. Better heat treat. Better warranty. Better people.

The reasons to get an RC over a RAT are many.

made in USA
better warranty
awesome people
higher quality
original designers
friends of BF.com
ect

I have an RC4 and Izula, and an RAT3. The RC knives are some of the best values out there.

i have an ontario rat3 in d2 which i bought prior to the separation of the two parties.

fit/finish is very good. it came very sharp, and has held up well. i don't care for the sheath system, which i believe is the same or similar to rat cutleries current offerings (i prefer leather).

i haven't handled a rat cutlery model, but there are many opinions on bfc i trust, and those opinions are drastically lop sided in favor of the newer rat cutlery models. likely a result of a combination of ethics and quality.

personally, i would like to see rat cutlery try some other steels and some uncoated blades. nothing wrong with 1095 or their coatings, which i understand are very durable. i just like options.

RAT Cutlery has a better product, imo. Better in every category, and especially better in the warranty department.

RAT Cutlery > Ontario any day of the week.

Rat Cutlery has a better warranty:thumbup: is a fact.

The rest of the reasons are opinion.

My Ontario Knife Company RAT's are made in the USA and with 1095 and D2 steel.

I like both!!! Again just an opinion.:jerkit:

Sounds to me like Ontario has made a bunch of folks rather upset with their business decisions. It is refreshing to see that ethics matter. Clearly, I'll be buying a real Rat!

Thanks all

Ontario makes some good knives, but they are more mass produced, the RAT knives I would consider are more of a Semi-Custom knife and are exceptional in quality, and the service is awesome, Jeff and his crew are great.
