I recently had the opportunity to handle a RAT 7 D2, and I was somewhat impressed.

I am seriously thinking of replacing a very good knife, the Cold Steel SRK on my pistol belt with the Ontario RAT7 D2.

The SRK has been an excellent trail kinife, and I really like it, but I also love D2 steel, and the RAT7 just had that certain "feel" to it.:p

Does anyone have experience with the RAT7 as a general purposae trail knife?

Thanks in advance!:D

For the price I would rather get a RD-7 but to each their own. I too have handled a Rat-7 and have seen and heard only good things about the knife. With it's thinner blade it could also make a great slicer.

I am in the marines, use my RAT-7 almost every day. Awsome blade but the finish licks balls. If you use you knife for anything serious expect it to be gone in a couple weeks or so. Other than that "AWSOME"

I will also jump in with a shameless plug for the Ranger RD7 over the Ontario RAT7. That being said however, I do think the Ontario RATs are nice knives, and if you are wanting a blade of that size that is thinner then go for it. I like the 1095 version better than the D2 version in the bigger blade though.

+1 on what folks said about the Ranger RD 7. If you are chopping, than the Ranger is the way to go.
