I don't get down here very often, but since receiving the RD Hawk today, I might just remedy that!:)

Just a few comments on this Hawk, bearing in mind, that it is my first.

I like it! Just as simple as that. This is the version with the pick. The handles are better fit than those on my RD knives, but still blocky. A little time with a drum sander on my Dremel tool, and some sandpaper took great care of that.

The edge is quite sharp, as is the pick. It feels good in my hand and feels like I have total control of it. I haven't had a chance to go out and try it yet, but I am going out on Monday, since I'm off work.

The sheath is very high quality and is made by De Santis. I wish the knife sheaths were this good. So all in all, this seems like a good piece of equipment to have, and to use. Part of me had to get one due to the quality of the RD knives I have, and the soon to happen zombie invasion. Man I can just see the pick puncturing that skull and nasty brains everywhere.

Btw, what would you suggest on sharpening the edge; leave as is, or try to convex it? Never convexed an edge, but my Browning Comp cutter has a convexed edge and it is SHARP!

But all kidding aside, I do expect this to be a very good piece of cutlery to add to my growing fixed blade collection.:)

That is a nice looking Hawk. I am looking forward to what you think of it after you try it out on Monday.

I'm going to have to wait until the rain stops before I hit the woods. I did take out my frustrations on my back porch where a junked water heater resides, knew it would come in handy some day, and I just about picked it to death! The pick really makes a nice hole and can further tear it open when you remove it by twisting the hawk. I found some pieces of 2X4's I had and proceeded to chop these without difficulty. The edge, prior to chopping, was not entirely razor sharp, but sharp enough to go through the 2X4's. Would you want a razor edge on such a tool, or not?

The water heater did remove the black coating on the end of the pick, for about 1.0", and there is a little bit of deformation on the tip, but nothing that can't be fixed with my Sharpmaker diamond rods and a hands on sharpening.

I didn't spend more than 30 minutes testing it, so it really needs to go outside for some woods testing, and for extended time.

But from what I saw, it is a really neat tool that I am glad I bought.:)

A couple of my famously blurry Blackberry pics.
