Here is a pic of the play that is in the sheath. The sheath has zero retention and allows the knive to move front to back with about a 1/2 inch of play. I have less inexpensive knives that came with a much better sheath. The knife looks great but any ideas on how to improve the sheath? I was thinking about making my own kydex insert or possibly just buying a kydex sheath but if the sheath is too much I probably should have just bought an esse which comes with a much better sheath

i'd try just heating up the insert, pressing it, and putting it back in the nylon sleave. that might do the trick :)

Kratos, I'm sure that sheath you show us is meant to accommodate 2,3, maybe 4 different size blades, and notice I didn't say "fit".
Don't be dismayed by the lousy factory sheaths that they send you your knife in....that's a nice knife and worthy of a custom fitted sheath.
ESEE's sheaths aren't much better and probably made in the same land, far far away.
