Just had a thought regarding my Ontario RD7 with serrations. Since I'm not a fan of serrations on blades, I'm wondering if I could grind the blade down at to the top of the serrations all the way to the finger choil. Specifically, the sharpened part of the blade would start at the half point of the finger choil and I would angle it to the top of the serrations meeting up with the straight edge. This would do two things, give me almost half an inch of sharpened straight edge blade and would produce a belly in the mid section of the blade (basically what the SP10 looks like I guess). Has anyone considered this and how would I do it without destroying the integrity of the 5160 steel?

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to be posting in, but I figured the "tinkering" section was applicable. I have an Ontario RD7 with serrations and since I don't like serrations on blades I'm thinking what if I ground them down all the way to the finger choil. Meaning, the sharpened blade would start at the half point of the finger choil and go to the top of the serrations meeting with the middle of the blade. This would do two things, give me almost half an inch of straight cutting blade and produce a belly in the middle of the blade much like what the SP10 Marine Raider looks like. Has anyone considered this and how would do it without compromising the 5160 steel? I it would make the blade look a little better too. I just saved a picture of the RD7 in photos and edited the photo by taking a straight line and erasing from the finger choil through the top of the serrations and meeting the sharpened blade to see what it would look like.
