Ontario RTAC-II steel question

I read somewhere that the Ontario RTAC-II used to be made with 1095 steel and that they are now made with 5160 steel. Is there some mark on the blade or some other indication that will tell someone which steel was used on any particular RTAC-II? Thanks.

You didn't say whether you own one already.

Sometimes it'll be marked on the blade. Otherwise just ask the dealer you're going to buy from. If you want to be sure, have him specify the steel he says it is on your sales receipt.

If you order on the web, most sites will declare the knife steel on the knife's page.

If you already own the knife there's a good chance you can get an answer as to which steel it is in one of the forums by description and date purchased.

Good points, Knivery.

I do own an RTAK-II (serrated version). I purchased it online back in March 2012. The receipt doesn't state the steel used and the link on the receipt goes to the present listing, which states it is 5160 steel. There is no notation so I was rather hoping that maybe someone would say that there was some indication under the scales.

I am thinking about selling or trading it and I want to be accurate in listing the steel used.
