I don't get it I was on amazon looking at the RTAK 2 and it was 90$ but then I looked at the Rat 7 and it was 100$ .Why is that since the RTAK 2 has better steel and is bigger and also which one should i get
RTAK 2

RAT 7

RANGER RD 6 series

What knife do u recommend ?

In my collection I have the

Gerber ultimate survival, Ka Bar Kukri, Ontario sp1 and the mora triflex.
Which knife should I add to my collection. I want something that can chop and also do the job of a smaller knife.

RTAK will chop better, but not do the job of a smaller knife well at all.

Rat 7 will chop a little less well and do the job of a smaller knife a little better than the RTAK.

I'd go with the RTAK to round out your collection. I've loved my RTAK over the last 4-5 years.

If you can get the Rat-7 in the D2 steel, you'll be amazed at how it can keep chopping and chopping. I have one, and a Rat-5 in D2, and the edge retention is excellent, especially for a chopper. I will admit, it takes a while to sharpen. But when it's sharp, it stays sharp.

Also where did you buy your RAT 7 with D2 steel thanks, give me a link

They're a little hard to find. Chestnut Ridge has varying models of the RAT series in D2 and that "big auction website" has them as well. I haven't looked for this particular set up in a while, so not sure if all the new inventory has been depleted. I'm pretty sure they've been out of regular production for a year or two now.

I have seen the "auction placed talked about here before . What is the link to it ??
Thanks

As much as I like the RAT-7, the handle is blocky and somewhat uncomfortable especially under hard use conditions. I tolerate it by wrapping it in hockey tape, which improves the grip when wet and makes holding it a little more comfortable. I don't have small hands either. My RAT-5 is the same. I would get the D2 model RAT-7 over the ESSE 6 because I like the D2 steel in that type of knife despite the difficulty to sharpen it in the field. It does stay sharp for longer than I am in the woods, so this isn't a problem for me. If it was a choice in the carbon Rat-7 vs. Esse, I'd hope that the Esse handle is more comfortable to hold and would go that route.

The auction site is ebay.

I guess i am a esse fan I have 3 but I sure do like the Bark Rivers . You have better choices with the Bravo as far as steel and handles even pins. Both are real nice knives

I thought that there was a knife site with quality stuff . Ebay is a Junk yard you can sift threw the junk all day and still see junk.

It's one of the few online places you can go to find "new, old-stock", which is a category that the D2 RAT-7 falls into. Every site has "junk", which is a relative description anyways.
