Recently I did a pretty involved restore or modded a blemed or damaged Ontario RTAK-II, by re-profiling the tip, spine, and grip/tang configuration. I also made some nice custom scales for it using Green Mamba Juma w/Kirinite Starlight Max glow liners. This knife was blemished/defective when I purchased it from ebay many years ago, and the seller then discounted it enough for me to keep it and use it for a base knife re-profile mod. I also made a longer than I planned to video/slideshow on the mods just documenting my progress through the process. I'm just a dabbling hobbiest at best and like to 're-purpose' or mod existing (affordable yet decently made) knives. This project in particular took me quite a while to complete and the longish video is evidence of that. I gripe/rant a lot about the hidden tool marks, grind marks, blems under the thick powder coating of the factory finish, and it was a ton of work to try and remove as much of the marks as I could. I think it turned out pretty good considering.
As mentioned the video is really long, (and I whine a bit about the stock blade) but at least it shows I put some time into trying to (slowly) fix up a hardened steel blade and tang. Skip to the end to see some nice video of the finished scales and glowing liners.
