Ontario SP 8 "Saw" help

I am preparing to purchase an SP 8 as the final addition for my Earthquake bag at my office.

Here is an earlier post regarding my approach: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1125792-Earthquake-Preparedness-at-the-Office

I wanted to ask folks here something about the SP8.

I have been looking at photos of the tool at various places and I seem to see two versions.

For example, right now on the bay auction site, I see some with silver logo and model on the blade, and some with black stamped-into-the-metal logo. The silver logo says "SP-8-95" while the black stamped one says "SP8-95"

I also, and this is the more important thing to me, see two types of teeth in the "saw" back.
One type are teeth cut at 90 degrees perpendicular to the blade sides, basically just like a single cut file, while the other type is cut diagonally to the sides of the blade, so the teeth look to be in two or three off-set rows, or like a double-cut file.

Those that own this tool or are familiar with this, what do you know? Are the older ones the "simple" style, newer ones cut more complex?

The issue is I really like these diagonally-cut teeth, and want them on my tool, but am not sure how to make sure I get them when I order the tool. So far, the more complex teeth seem to be on a tool with black stamped in lettering... but I also see some with black lettering and the simple teeth...

I understand it is not supposed to be a wood saw, but I think the more complex tooth patter would be more versatile and I would prefer them.

Thanks,
Brome

(and if there is a better location to post this, please do move it...)

Hmmm.
Any chance a moderator could move this to the Ontario Forum (I ignorantly did not realize there was one, until I just looked...)?
I should have put it there in the first place.
Probably more likely to get a response there, and it seems bad form to create a new thread for the same purpose/question.

Thanks.

Click the black triangle containing ! at the bottom left of one of your posts and ask a mod to move the thread.

Thanks for the help, marcinek.
I have been here for a while, but don't know all the tricks...

Marcinek,

Thanks for helping Wapiti get to the correct subforum.

Wapiti,

The original SP-8 was developed with the diagonal cut teeth. It stayed that way for years. I left the company for another and during that time it changed to the single cut sawback. I'll do some investigating and find out when that happened.
I agree with you. The diag. cut saw pattern was like having a steel beaver in your hand.
I can't promise anything but I can look to see if it makes sense to change back.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Toooj.
Just the kind of help I was hoping for.

So it was actually older ones that have the better teeth. Good to know.
Well I guess I will have to watch the sale locations. Any other features that were different (like the maker/model stamp) so I could identify the older tools, with the better teeth, from a photo that doesn't show the teeth so well?
I guess I can ask the seller...

Thanks.
