i've really close to ordering an Ontario SP42. i'd love to hear back from people who have used it or any of the similar Ontario blades. the two biggest concerns i have are: the point looks a little dainty (it's the "drop point") and how well the harder handle material will hold up with a good deal of chopping?

input? thanx.

here is a good review http://www.pekiti.com/knife-reviews-ontario-spec.php

Personally, I would wait until they make the effort to provide a sheath that fits the knives properly. I don't like Ka-bar and Ontario throwing out knives on the market with generic $2 sheaths.

cool, man, i appreciate the link.

the sheath doesn't bother me, at all, that's what i do. i make custom sheaths and a small part of me actually hopes the knife i choose comes with a crappy one :D the sheath i have i mind for this one will hold flint, ferro rod, and a small scraper all of which will be attached with as much 550 as i can wrap around it :)

Sounds good brother, good luck with it and hope to see a nice, positive update if you go through with this knife. Some pics with your sheath definitely.

If they are trying to ensure top quality for these they should be great, the old Spec Plus Raider Bowie was used and abused for a long time between my father, brother, and I. Even though my father was a machinist and part-time knife-maker during most of that time he always had a soft spot for the Raider Bowie and thought it was a great value.

did it ever loosen up? i know the tang is small (like 1/2") and the kraton handle is just pushed on then held in place with the flared tubing lanyard hole. did you ever notice the fit between the handle and tang get loose? could you ever wiggle it and feel the tang moving inside the handle? i'm sure there is little (if any) difference, in the handling process, between the GEN I and GEN II line.

Thanx

Not ever loose that I remember, last time I got to go back and visit (a couple years ago) it was the same old knife after the 15 years or so of being beat up on.
