Ontario sp10 handle mod?..

Could this be done? How much medal is under the plastic? Could it be ripped off and modded out with some nice wood or micarta? Thanks for any ideas. :)
 
Gee, you joined in 2010 but this is your first post?

Anywho ...

The Ontario SP10 Marine Raider has a stick tang. You'll probably have to cut it off. You might try drilling out the lanyard tube and see if the handle can be pulled off.

Either way, you'll need to carve a new handle out of wood or build up a stacked leather/wood/whatever handle.

If you decide to do it, be sure to post pics. We'd luv to see how you did it. Have fun.
 
Ha... I thought that was strange too. Thanks for the help. Not finding great info on how to end the handle. Peen?
 
Lots of ways to end the handle. Lots.

You could make it a 'hidden tang'. Of course, most of these require the use of epoxy.

If the tang is long enough you could pin it like is done on the KaBar USMC fighter.

Or weld a threaded rod to the end of the tang and use a cap nut to secure the handle to the tang.

Wood, brass, plastic, leather, go as basic or fancy as you want or are capable of.

I found a thread that described I picture that showed this knife with the rubber handle removed, but the picture link was broken.. Does anyone know of a pic like this ?
 
Thanks I'll check those out. I'm still at stage 1 (stripped handle and blade) got a little held up with some shoulder surgery.
