Just wanted to know thoughts for anyone who has experience with this blade. I've been interested in the Ontario SP10 for years and have never pulled the trigger. I love 1/4" blades but my question is regarding the steel. I know the older versions were 1095 and I've heard (not sure if true) that Ontario switched to 1075 steel. So, if I were to get one should I search for an older 1095 version or just get a new one if it really is 1075. Just wanted some input on Ontario's 1095 vs. 1075 and if they really did switch. Thanks.

Can't say if Ontario switched from 1095 but 1070 is known to be a very tough steel used in machetes and shovels. One of my favorite knives, a Scandi grind by Brazilian cutliero Ivan Campos is in 1070, and the sharpest knife I own. Given equivalent heat treat it likely would be difficult to tell the difference in actual use.

I have an SP10 in 1075, and I cannot tell any difference from the dozens of other knives I have in 1095. It's good steel and a good knife.

Im lost
Ruger44 mentionned the old one was made in 1095 but you show a older version (1st version) mentionning its a 1075 steel one.

So ...the 1st one is 1095 or 1075 ?!

I always equated the stamped vs. laser etched as a good metric for what steel Ontario used. All of the older OKC blades I have that are stamped with 'Ontario' I figured are 1095. The one I have that has 'Ontario' laser etched I figure is 1075. And that seems about right because the manufacture date on the box for that one is October 2016 which is about the time they switched to 1075.
