Hey, I have an Ontario Marine Raider bowie knife and I was wondering if anyone has a photo of the hidden tang. I have used the knife very hard and it has held up/performed very well. (Heavy chopping, splitting, hard use...still very sharp with no edge flaws!) I love this knife and I am very curious to get a look at what is under the handle.

No photo but the tang is full length - runs to the brass grommet at the end.

Thank you for your replies. The knife is a great performer and it feels rock solid. I don't think it will ever fail me. I am just curious to see it's tang (I have two other spec plus knives) and I am pretty sure it is full length because I checked it with a magnet when I first received it. The only small issue is that some manufacturers weld/attach the last 1" of the tang on to more easily/cheaply make the knife with a brass grommet. I don't know why they would do that(sounds harder)but I have seen it done. In this photo, it looks almost as if the tang (kabar heavy bowie tang) has a separate piece on the end.

It was probably a very clean break but I have seen this method used on other knives. Thanks for reading.

I don't think you have to worry about your knife breaking. From what I know of Ontario and KaBar they make very strong knives and only extreme torture and abuse can cause them to fail.

I'm definitely not worried about that bad boy breaking, its field proven. I just like to know small details.

You could take it down and have it x-rayed, you know.
If you do, please post pics and let's all have a look-see.:D

BTW, welcome to BFC!

I have the ontario that looks like a kabar I can`t remember the model .I took the handle off to see what the tang looked like ,it`s about the same on all the models I think much like the cold steel trailmaster about 7/8 " and the same thickness as the blade .You can take the handle off and out it back on easily ,just drill out the brass lanyard hole and the handle slides right off and can be put back if you can flair a brass tube.
