Ontario sp52 and 53????

I had a SP6 that I really loved. Gave it to a friend who really needed a good knife. I thought the steel was terrific! Held an edge really well. Those handles are incredibly comfy. With the prices so low I didn't mind the crappy sheath much.

I plan on getting another one along with the SP1 marine fighting knife and the SP51.

They are the kings of the wilderness choppers. Very few knives will out chop them, and they are indestructible. I sold mine (both) because of carry weight, though I still pack an Ontario Kukri occasionally. I now use a SP45 and 46 for all my general large knife tasks and the SP46 and Becker 15 for medium duty. I've found that wood does not dull the 5160, REALLY. If you carved and whittled everyday it would be a year before that dang 5160 would stop cutting, and I personally split wood for 3 winters next to the wood stove with my 53 and never touched the edge, went to sharpen it for the friend I was selling it to and discovered one dull are an inch long where I had struck my brick mantel several times but the rest of the blade would shave hair. Can't say enough good about the Gen II line

very cool

how woudl you compare the 53 and 52 with the ontario kukrI? that's a blade I haven't played with

The Kukri is great! About the same weight but a bit longer and balance is farther forward. Out chops the FFG model but about even with the sabre ground one. Best part is the price and the only downside is a really pathetic sheath

got ya thanks! I'll probably end up buying all of them. Seems possibly the 52 's edge is quite obtuse on edge angle? doesn't seem to bite in that great
