Ontario SP6 or KA-BAR USMC

I have not owned either but as a fighting knife, either would work well. The ka bar has a better piercing point and nice leather sheath but have been known to break in wilderness use.

I would look at the Ontario OKC-S3. If you carry an AR, it doubles as a bayonet. The blade shape is sexy.

I am in in need of a fighting knife. I have owned many KA-BAR USMC's but I do not have one at this time.

Who has owned a Ontario SP6 and how do you like it?

What should I get, a Ontario SP6 for about $43 or a KA-BAR USMC for about $60?

It will be used as my combat knife that will be taped to my plate carrier for a local militia.

At those prices, why not buy both, try em out, give em hell, and do a review to tell US which one is better?

I don't need to own both to tell you that even as a die hard kabar fan, the SP6 is a better choice. Not necessarily for stabbin' bodies but for anything else youmight want to do with it.

I don't need to own both to tell you that even as a die hard fan of neither, Ontario makes decent stuff for the $, Not necessarily for _______, but for anything else you might want to do with it. KABAR is good too. (If you indeed intend to actually STAB BODIES, PLEASE buy a cheap knock off offshore made knife.)

Ever take a look at kabars tawainese knives? Like new modeled warthog.

I don't know what we're using the knife for but that "heavy chopper" line is good stuff

I have an SP6. All I can say is the second you pick this thing up you know you are holding a weapon. So if that's what you are after the sp6 is hard to beat.

I own both & like them a lot. The SP6 has the more comfortable handle & it's extra weight & length will make it a more capable chopper. Its definitely feels like a weapon, as someone else here has said. It also has a lanyard hole, if that matters. It's extra size & weight may or may not be welcome on your person all day in full battle dress, though.

The KaBar has a solid steel pommel that works in a pinch for pounding things & comes with a better factory edge. Neither knife come with particularly great sheaths for carrying all day. Both are carbon steel knives & will need the appropriate care to prevent rust.

As a pure fighter or as a heavy duty work knife I'd give it to the SP6 (after being reprofiled a bit). However, the Kabar will carry better & has all sorts of intangible good stuff going for it, from it's history & track record to the beautiful leather handles & classic profile. Its been ther & done that for decades.

Also, if you want the Kabar blade on a Spec Plus handle, consider the SP1. Its cheap enough that you could get both Spec Plus knives for a little over $80 & try them both out & have the SP1 available if you find the SP6 too much to carry.
