Ontario Spec Plus 10 Marine Raider Bowie question

I have had one for 2 years and have only taken it car camping a few times. It is real heavy and chops very good. The edge is a little to blunt for my taste but this can be remedied. It will rust quite easily if not looked after. The sheath is very good it is comfortable to wear if you can handle the weight.
I give it 2 thumbs up. For the price it is very capable. I don't know what it would be like in a demolition test but if you need a large knife for chopping or any kind of knife task I think it would be impossible to break.

Cheers from the North

The tip is thin and narrow. It broke with fairly light prying on the one I had.

Prying is what the screwdriver blade is for on your SAK.

I was just thinking the same thing.

I got a chance to hit the gunshow yesterday and was impressed with the amount of cutlery they had there (usually all pakistani crap) . I ended up actually getting to hold some ontario knives (sp19 i think- it always reminded me of the mission mpk) and I was impressed with the stoutness of that .25" 1095. Hopefully my SP10 will be arriving today.

No problem with the blade but those Spec Plus kraton handles need a remodelling.
OMG! They really should have gotten rid of those awful persian-style sabre guards ages ago.

guards?- or saber grinds? It is ground the way it is because the USMC went with the saber grind as one of its requirements in a knife.- ie the K-Bar

Actually I find the handle to be perfect for what I need it for- one less peice of gear to worry about. I wouldn't want anything else for the harsh envirnment it is going to be used in.

Well I finally got it last night and I am impressed. the weight is the first thing I noticed. It is perfectly ground and razor sharp. I can't wait to chop something with it.

The Ontario Marine Raider is heavy, but a good chopper. It is not at all like the original from Collins, which was thin and light, like a small machete. The Western and Case Bowies are much more like the original and good knives, if you like that style. The Ontario Survival Bowie (SP5?) is much more useful as an all-around camp knife than their Marine Raider. I used to recommend these, but no more, since Ontario is suing RAT Cutlery.

Dang! Another knife company goes off my list! The list of knife manufacturers I'll buy from is getting shorter and shorter.
