I've been eyeing one for a long time. Does anyone have experience with one? It seems like a great chopper.

I own one (It's actually infront of me right now :D ) and I'll try to give you some of the pros/cons. :D

Pro's:
-1095 steel is decent.
-Handle is decent.
-Squared tip thrust's weight further forward for increased momentum.
-Very tough, thick and ready for all the abuse you can throw at it.
(Thats about it)

Con's:
-Squared tip makes doing finer work impossible.
-Sheath isn't great for quick accessablility and flops around when moving (alot).
-Saw on back is completly useless, irritates hand, gets caught on sheath and kills what your batoning with.
-The edge is way to robust, the grinds should be a lot more accute to do more sufficient chopping, sharpened prybar comes to mind.
-only 7.5" of blade, 2.5" is "choil" which is useless because of squared tiped.

I suggest that you look for another blade or at least handle the SP-8 before buying one, if I had known all of this I may not have bought one. :)

Although it is a very robust and dependable tool, and although extremely thick near the edge... it does get the job done. :D

I personally would preffer a GB Small Forest Axe (I am and axe person, much better chopping and splitting abilities) or the Scrap Yard Dog Father (you'll have to wait for the next release) :)

Average chopping ability, although I'm with Wabajack on this one: axes are MUCH better choppers than knives in general. Spec Plus-8 is a decent knife, well priced and will serve you splendidly in most camp situations.

Thanks guys. I rarely carry a hatchet unless running traps. When I think an axe is more appropriate, I carry an AXE. It seems like it would be great for clearing brush too.
