Hope this isn't the wrong forum.

Anyway the product I'm currious is by Ontario Knife Company, don't know anything about their products in general nor do I know if their machete is any good. You can see the product here, http://www.knifezone.ca/ontario/ON-sp8.htm

I like it for the size and shape, I think it would be easy to rig between a backpack and your back with the handle behind your head. Nice and our of the way and not too big. I don't know if its any good and would (dejavou) like to know if the saw in paticular is worth anything or just added for gimick. (at least it doesn't have a cheap compass on the handle)

It would be used for a variety of terrain so I can't say its intended for branches or briars or anything in paticular but it would not likely be used heavily for anything on any given trip. Just campsite pruning mostly, so it will work to some degree I'm sure.

Also (if its at the link I posted I didn't look for it) does anyone know the weight?

I've had one for a few years, it is my outdoor EDC, I use it for shelters, clearing, kindling, the saw back is excellent for deadfals and snares, this knife is essentialy a sharpened prybar.

What I really like is that it does not pretend to be a do all survival knife, it's a good substitute for a small machete/ax.

I paid $45 for mine so I'm sure you can find it a lot cheaper.

So you think this would take care of chopping firewood? That would remove the need for me to get a Gerber Paxe. Can't hammer with this though but a rock can take care of that.

by EDC I asume you mean Every Day Cary?

I've used a log to hammer the machete through wood for splitting, and it definitely, short of splitting a cord of wood or building a log cabin, this would foot the bill for camping or hunting excursion.
