What do you think of the Ontario TAK 1 ? Do you have one ? How do you like it ? Is it 1095 or D2 ?

I recently bought a D2 TAK, haven't had a chance to go play with it outside.

I did take it to work and cut a fair amount of cardboard boxes and slip sheets. Edge holding was good, its not a "slicer" though. Handle/ergonomics was comfortable for my limited trial of it.

The grind on mine is fairly even, does have a slight (and I mean very slight) widening towards the tip. Sheath isn't bad either.

So considering I paid around $85 shipped for mine, I'm pretty happy.

Really? Is it similar to a kydex sheath? For most of the reviews I've read, the complaints were mostly focused around the sheath.

Ive got a 1095 TAK. Its a great knife with a generous handle. Its been one of my fav outdoor blades for a long time now. Ive used mine for every task imaginable and its still going strong. I highly recommend it, especially if youve got large hands.

The stock sheath is crap though. I had a custom JRE leather sheath made for mine.

I DO have a TAK myself . I wanted to see what others thought was good and bad about them . I like the form of the knife (after all it was designed by Randall's Training & Adventure) and the handle is a great size and quite comfortable . I bought both a 1095 and a D2 at one point and although I liked the D2 better I didn't like the linen micarta handles as much as the canvas ones , so I swapped out the scales and sold the 1095 with the linen scales on it . I feel that the sheath that came with the knife is fine . It's only to hold the knife and it does that . One thing I find with the TAK is that it's handle heavy and so it's usless as even a small chopper . It battons well though (not sure how long D2 can take that sort of impact use) but I do it . With it's 4 1/2" blade it falls nicely into the 4 to 6 inche survival knife range too . I hope to hear more about the good and the bad on here from people who use theirs .
