This isn't a review so much as an observation. I ordered the basic Ontario Tak with 1095 from one of my favorite dealers, Bill Horn of Cumberlandknifeworks.com. Bill e-mailed me back that he was out of the 1095 version, but gentleman that he is, he offered to send me the deluxe version with D2 steel for no extra charge.
The reason I am posting is to report how impressed I am with the materials, fit and finish of this $75 knife. My initial impression is that it compares very well with my BRKT Bravo 1 and Swamp Rat Ratmandu, but cost half as much.
Also, the price difference between the 1095 and D2 versions of this knife is about $15 I believe. Well I didn't realize it but that $15 buys you not only D2 steel instead of 1095, but you also get linen Micarta handles instead of canvas Micarta, and a powder coat blade finish instead of phosphate finish.
It just seems to me that the deluxe version of this knife is more than worth the $15 price difference, and is a very good value at $75.
