Just read the article in the new issue of TK and this seems to be a decent blade. Here are my questions for any of you who have held or own one of these.
Is the choil in front of the guard deep enough for a finger?(I have skinny hands)
I have heard the black finish is easily worn off?
How do you find the blade length to handle ratio? It seems to have a very large handle.
1095 still don't have a blade with this steel so I am curious.
Price seems very resonable, compared to a TOPS- 1095 blade(no critisism here just observation)
So sorry for all the questions but I will have to buy this blade without ever holding it(won't be the first)What do you folks think??? Thanks and Take Care!

I own a machete from ontario in 1095. It takes a great edge, and is really good for hard use. Mine's chipped at the edge, but I beat that poor tool, as I use it in my yard every week. I'm very happy with mine; I think that the TAK shold perform well.--Joe

Compared to the price of a TOPS knife with 1095 steel, the Ontario TAK and it's big brother the RTAK are superb deals. I find the blade to handle ratio on the Ontario TAK is very good and the green canvas Micarta scales provide and excellent and comfortable grip. The 4.25 inch blade is shaving sharp, yet not too thin for serious field work. 1095 carbon steel will hold a good edge and is easy to sharpen in the field, but will rust easily if not cared for. The phosphate coating on the TAK helps minimize corrosion and will scuff/scratch if you use the knife hard, but who cares? This is a knife meant to be used and you'll find it's one of the best fixed blade designs on the market. Buy one, use it and let it carry it's scars with pride. You won't regret getting one.

Check out Jeff Randall's site for pics and more details. He also hosts the Outdoor Forums there and you can read a few reviews of the knife.

Thanks again. Do you think you could fit a finger in front of the guard, to choke up on the blade? Take Care!!!

What Cosmic said.

Am I the only one that's excited about the pending release of the RAT 7. A representative from Ontario indicated to me in September that they were anticipating a mid October release for this product.

Saw the RAT7 on the Ontario website. Looks like it will be an awesome blade. Just that right length between the two older models IMO. I am jmore interested in the TAK because it is shorter, I already have a Spyderco Perrin and a CUDA CQB-1 so I have the larger fixed blade covered. The TAK just looks like real good bang for the buck. Take Care!!!

I have large hands but I can fit my forefinger under the choil. I'm telling you, get this knife. It's that good.
