Ontario USMC

All of the major manufacturers of this style knife make them in the same fashion. IIRC, Ontario Knife Company is the only current supplier of this knife to the US military. The blade steel is typically 1095, and on the Ontario offering it is parkerized. They all sport the stacked leather handles and steel cross guards - with pinned pommels. Given the method of construction, the tang is a "rat tail" type. One big difference between the commercial Ka-Bar knives and the Ontario Marine Combat is that the Ka-Bar blades are now finished with a powder coat type finish which some will argue staves off rust much better than the parked blades. Personally, I keep all of my knife blades well oiled and don't much care for the way "paint" coated blades wear - so I have a preference for the old school parkerized finish (at least on this style of knife). At the end of the day, get either one. If it is going to be a "user", quite frankly, you'll be happy with either...

Cheers,
hsld.

Btw, If you're interested in seeing it, here is a thread I started about this particular knife...

From what I've heard, I seriously doubt that you'll be able to tell the difference in actual use. I've always carried the Ka-Bar version, and I've never had a single problem.
