nyone check out this knife Ontario XM-1, seems like such a beefy knife, but the liner lock seems a bit under sized for it...what do u all think...?

A friend of mine was issued one during his last tour in Iraq. I bought one shortly after he came home (after seeing his knife).

It's made in Italy and reminds me of one of the smaller Extrema Ratio knives.

The lock looks adequate enough to me.... I think the liner and lock is made of titanium. The pictures are deceiving, it's a little thick.

It's one of my favorite knives and I consider it a "keeper". Believe it or not I bought mine on closeout from BudK, for $60 or $70. When I went back to order the camo version they were both sold out.

As said by others the handle is pretty thick but there's a slimmer version of it. I also feel like the liner lock could be more sturdy...but overall it's a good knife!!!!

I have the military version and the civilian version, they rock, I did get some chipping on the edges of the blades but I've been pounding on them. Good little sharp pry-bars, better carried in a sheath or clipped in your gear. The nylon washers could stand to be replaced with bronze ones as I did to one of mine.

It's supposed to be the european equivalent of 440C, also compared to 154CM or ATS34 I think, I'm not a steels guy, the edges on mine have held well and I give better marks for hardness/ wear resistance than toughness in the heat treats mine have. They also have cryo [supposedly].

see if you can find the "controversey" surrounding this steel. It is claimed to be inferior for hard use by some guy on MCKF. Better yet go post in the BF european knife community section they can probly help you better than I can.

Also BF member / knifemaker Jerry Hossom can comment if you can reach him he is a down home type o' guy.

Its a misconception that Its equal to 440c, its nothing like 440c. It is very much like VG-10 in performance though.

I've used it in a couple of blades and I really like it a lot. It holds a pretty darn good edge and is very stainless. I'd say definately in the ranks of 154 cm and vg10.

I like mine, but the thick handles keeps it out of my pocket. still a nice design, ill have to check out the slimmer version

The European equivalent as far as standardness and use, more used and available like 440C [used to be anyway] here, this side of the pond ...

Not as in performance or content.

As far as the liner lock goes, it is probably around .060" thick and I would think made from steel? I prefer .080" or thicker. My two carry knives, listed below, both have titanium liners .100" thick. Guess that sorta shades my answer a little on liner thickness.:D

On the N690Co blade steel; I have two knives I rotate between, an Ontario Hossom Retribution 1 (made by Fox in Italy) for my large carry, and a Boker Titan Defender for the small. Both have N690Co blade steel and I have had no problems with it. In my experience, it seems to be a lot like 154CM.

Any reviews of this knife? Preferrably video? I just ordered one but I don't know how long I am gonna' keep it.
