I'm on a daiwa kick this year. Bought a daiwa zillion tws 6.3 on a falcon bucoo 6'6" rod and now bought a daiwa exceler 1500sh on a shimano convergence rod. Used it to catch a few crappie today and so far I love it. Hoping to land some bass on it! I caught a few on a setup I had given to me that was in poor working order. A small 1000 size Cardinal on a Shakespeare excursion 5' rod. Caught a few smaller bass on it with 4lb line and loved it. I run 50 lb braid on my BC and going to 4 lb mono is a blast. Anyone else fish with UL gear? I had a shimano Chronarch and Abu revo sx but traded out for the daiwa.

First fish of the year was a 6lb largemouth in a 3/8 jig in about 48° weather. Opening day I caught 9 rainbow and a brown trout. Then the other day I caught 6 brook trout. My first brown in my life was caught this year.

And knife content

Recently talked my buddy into getting a higher quality knife. He got that. I used my ESEE 4 for cleaning up fish, he used his 3.

Congratulations on your first brownie. Looks like you're having fun and that is what it's all about.

Been using Shimano Stradic 1000 reels for a number of years now with 4 lb test line. Like them a lot. Hardly anyone makes a rod I truly like anymore. My most used rod is a 5 foot G Loomis light action rod with extra fast tip. Love this rod, but they don't build it anymore and once I break it. It's gone. It came from Cabelas and was labeled a crappie rod.

I have a number of other rods. The features that draw me are a stiff rod (butt section), fast tip, and cork handle without a fixed reel seat so I can mount the reel closer to the end of the rod rather than the traditional location about middle. My longest rod is a 6' All Star light action that I use for trout in larger water from time to time. But I generally choose the GLoomis. I don't like the wimpy ultra light rods you usually see at stores.

using a nice diawa pressa 4pc ultralight rod for trout (7ft) with a nice little quantum and 4lb test.
Can snapcast a little 1/8 oz spoon a good 30 to 40 plus yards

Keep it in the truck, perfect for shorecasting in the backcountry lakes

Went for cutties twice after work this spring already, got a few.

I love fishing with ultralight and even microlight equipment. Not sure I could cast 40 yards with one, but sufficient distance to put a roostertail where I want it a good percentage of the time. And the light line and rod enhance to feel so much that even small fish are entertaining to catch!

I love fishing ultra lite with 4# test. I have caught some very good fish over the years using several different set ups. If the truth be known, ultra lite is my favorite way to fish.

Ultra lite is not that popular in East Texas as most fishing is for LM bass with baitcasting tackle and 12# or heavier line. Crappie fishing and fishing for stocked trout in winter are the most common uses around here.

My favorite lure is a 4 inch slider worm on a spider jig head. In fact, I like Gary Yamamoto 4 inch cut tail worms. If you have never fished a Senko, I highly encourage you to add it to your selection of baits. They are not inexpensive but they do catch fish!

Yes, a senko is a cigar shaped worm. Gary yamamoto baits makes them, but there are a few other copies. His son had made a similar work as well as strike king. They're killer for bass

3ft of line from the rodtip....hold out front slightly left then with a smooth slow acceleration swing it to your right.

At about 2:30 or 3 on the clock bring the swing up and overhead with the rod high, grab the bottom of the rod with your left and pull sharply towards you while quickly snapping the right cast forward.

Really puts a load on the rod without having a lot of weight!

Takes a little practice but similar technique to a double haul with a flyrod. I can do it sitting as long as the rod is not too short.

And a pink and green roostertail in 1/8oz is one of my 4 go to lures when prospecting new water,
tipped with a small garden worm( not a fingerthick dew worm) in spring is deadly.

I may be preaching to the choir to someone of your experience but I bet some others could use this

My favorite rig is my St Croix 5'5" UltraLight, fast action, 2 piece rod with a Shimano Stradic CI4 1000 reel. I run a braid with a flourocarbon leader. It's perfect for panfish and trout which are my favorites to fish for.

If I fished for trout and panfish more throughout the year I would have spent more. All my money is invested in bass gear. For 130$ I can't complain about the setup. I had a st croix triumph that I loved, 1 piece bait casting rod. The ci4's are sweet reels whether they be the BC or spinning reels.

I fished ultralite for years now and love it! I'll try and get some pics up of my gear. Don't think I've ever had more fun than fishing ultralite.
