Oooooooooh Yeah!!

Unreal.... Like a freaking time machine. Who can be maintaining it is a good question. Need someone like Larry who knows how the world wide web works.

edited until I find out what is what

Guys,
I wish I could give you a good answer, but all I know are lame Scottish jokes.:o ...oh, and that ALGORE invented the INTERNET.

Larry, Larry.....are you out there?

Bill

Apparently it is a non profit organization started in 1996 with the idea of building an "Internet Library" (sounds like Assimov's "Foundation" to me) and probably has good supporters (money wise) behind it, here's its About page, and its FAQ page.

Wow, it is frigging (to be emphatic) unbelievable, I even found my old Personal page, which I made and then erased years ago when I was learning HTML (background pictures and music are missing so it does not look and sound as cool as it was).

I'm done....only Phil would need to edit his post, I guess.

I don't want to be too paranoid and think someone would wipe out the history...but, I guess you never know.

Bill

Redshanks,

I thought it was 12 Angry Men...or Seven Samurai...but not the Antipost???

It seems to me that the pages now in the Archive are in their local archive servers, I erased my personal page years ago and it is in the archive with a new URL address.

I believe Robots.txt files are designed to prevent a server or its files from being searched by a Robot program such as those used by Search engines and whatever it is The Archive site is using. But what has already been taken, well, it has been taken.

Robots.txt files are typically used to protect folders and files with private data such as passwords, account numbers, etc. that you don't want a search engine or others to see.

I'm confused...

I did edit my page... are we afraid a certain someone will do something evil here or what? When we find out if these pages cannot be done away with, shall we put the link up in the sticky???

Phil

Luis, are you saying that the pages are on the site permanently, whether or not the search string is broken?

From their FAQ page:

What type of machinery is used in this Internet Archive?

Much of the Internet Archive is stored on hundreds of slightly modified x86 servers. The computers run on the Linux operating system. Each computer has 512Mb of memory and can hold just over 1 Terabyte of data on ATA disks. However we are developing a new way of storing our data on a smaller machine. Each machine will store 1 terabyte. For more information go to www.petabox.org.
From the same FAQ page:

...You can find exclusion directions at exclude.php. If you cannot place the robots.txt file, opt not to, or have further questions, email us at info at archive dot org.
So yes they reside on the Archive's own servers, placing a robots.txt file on a server only prevents future crawling. It seems that anyone can ask that their pages be removed by sending them an email, I wonder however if anyone has copyright or owns all those old pages and can have them removed.

Luis

The copyrighted pages containg assets and images have been removed or moved from the archives and notes to that effect of the new owner requesting such a move can be found within some of the htm's. Still some interesting things out there.
Talk about big brother watching. Anyone think their e-mail arent being stored?
I gotta go do some cleaning!

OK Irving,

What does that mean??? Can we just post the whole thing in the sticky...or do I have to keep wearing my tin hat and talking in code and stuff??:jerkit:

Bill ( I was excited about finding this once upon a time):(
