I just got a bm-42, and while adjusting the latch torx screw... the head of the screw came right off! I didn't overtighten, at least I don't think so. It just seemed really rather weak. So, now i'm stuck with the rest of the screw inside... What would some of you suggest I do? Is there a way to fix this? Maybe drill it out, and replace the torx screw and threads?

i'd like to do it myself, and not have to ship it out anywhere.

I suppose the latch isn't absolutely vital, but i'd just like to have it in perfect working order. Also, do any of you know how to go about taking the latch off completely? Any info would help.

Strange. Never heard of this, but I'm sure someone else will answer your question. I'm of no use whatsover. I just wanted to write something.

Funny though. In the past week or so, seems everyone has been having problems with their BM 42. Either its a torx, or tang, or lost screw, or something else. Is this some kind of planned obsolescence by Benchmade? Perhaps? Do I hear conspiracy? Shhhhhh! They're listening!

you drill it out you will need to use a left handed drill bit so when it grabs it will back the screw out. Other than that, punch it out and replace the whole assembly.

Alrighty

Where would I go about getting a whole new assembly, Mer?

Also, does anyone know what those screws are made of? They don't seem magnetic, but the female part is.. eenteresting.
