I just opened my new Dozier Thorn (received it a month or so ago) and found it is not a good knife for a lefty. The thumb stud is recessed into the right side scale and due to the liner lock design it can't be put on the left side. Too bad as the Thorn is a sweet knife. I guess I should be a bit more careful next time...

Damn...Don't you just hate it when that happens? It should be a LAW that ALL knives are totally ambidextrious, and it should be a felony on the manufacturer when they aren't!. (BTW...I'm a "lefty".).

Yeah Dann, I hate spending $100 to re-learn a lession. I guess I'll swap it for something else.
Can someone recommend a good alternative that is lefty friendly?

All of the Benchmade AXIS-lock line-up are completely ambidextrous, constructed symetrically. And they're great knives, I've owned a few, and no real complaints.

If you just opened it, even though you had it a month, why not try returning it to the vendor along with an explanation? All they can say is "no" and they might allow you a credit (if nothing else) or perhaps refund the money less a 'stocking fee.' Worth a try. The vendors I've dealt with have all been customer-service oriented and a pleasure to deal with.

Cricket-
I thought about returning the Thorn but one of my sons (I have 4) likes it and I might just box it back up and save it for him. He is a bit young to carry it now, but time flies.
Sph3ric- Yeah, the Benchmade Axis knives are great. I also opened a BM705 I bought at the same time. I love it. No problems with this baby.

How about a Spyderco FRN Endura or the slightly smaller FRN Delica?...Both are very "lefty-friendly" folders.

i'm with Glockman. an Endura would be great, and i can open it easier in my left hand than in my right (though i don't know why that is, as i am RIGHT handed).

abe m.

Yupe don't ya hate it when lefties like us are left in the cold ? Luckily there still are spyderco and benchmade etc...
