SO I decide to clean an old knife that has become hard to open due to gunk, rust and general age. I apply some gunzilla quite liberally and start wiping when I notice the black on my fingers... I blanked out and didnt realize the text printed on the handle would come right off with the wrong cleaner! DOH!

Anyone else ever make a silly or stupid mistake cleaning/maintaining their knives?

I made the mistake of sharpening a knife BEFORE I cleaned it. Never again.

But then I made the mistake, once the former wound healed, of Frog Lubing it AFTER I sharpened it. My mommy actually threatened to take away my toys...:o

I've stripped screwheads out by using the wrong bit. I know I should bite the bullet and invest in a good set of Torx bits... but somehow, it's harder to buy a set of bits than a set of blades...

I've also let blades that got exposed to salt water go unwashed. The ugly rust spots were my comeuppance. I guess that's more of a sin of omission when it comes to cleaning... a very egregious one at that.
