I work in a Maintainence shop in an Army hospital here in Hawaii. I was removing a piece of equipment from the hospital today because it was unfit for human use anymore. We usually cut the powercord so that it doesn't find it's way back onto a ward. Most people unplug the powercord before they cut it. OOPS. Do you think spyderco warranty covers general stupidity?

Oh! Wow man! I hope you are ok. I bet if anyone is willing to help out in this particular case of 'stupidity' It would be Spyderco. I really don't feel so bad now for cutting through the cord attaching an old chandelier to my ceiling with a pair of tin snips (without turning the power in the house off..) :) Been there, done that. wow, what a shocker!

-Take care... and let's neither of us EVER do that again!

Sypderco has the ultimate warranty dept. I'd bet they give you a new knife with no problems.

If I would be SPYDERCO I certainly wouldn’t do it.
Brandon, no offense please – just for your own safety. The next such trial with new knife may be not so lucky for you.

My advice would be to put this knife in glass showcase together with particular instruction how to depower electrical devices, just for memory. In my personal experience all power cables have at least two ends and each of them can be removed from a contact one or another way.

If I were Spyderco I'm pretty sure I wouldn't replace it either. Trust me I didn't do it on purpose. this was one of those brain fart moments that happen on friday after eating a big fat bar-b-que sandwich and counting the minutes till you can go home and pop a beer. I can't really afford to put it behind glass though. I'll probably see if spyderco can do anything with it for a charge then keep on using it. Hell it definately has some character now and every time I pop it open to cut a power cord I'll think twice and make sure it's unplugged first.

The power cord was fastened to the back of the unit and I didn't want to unscrew it. I should have checked to make sure it was unplugged. I usually cut the cords even though I could remove it. A cut power cord indicates that the unit should not be used again. If the unit is just missing a cord someone might try to find another cord and use the equipment on a patient.
