Hello, Bladeforumites...

I haven't posted here in a while, so let me reintroduce myself. I'm a full-time bladesmith / jeweler from Vermont- all of my work is Sole-Authored and I tend to be inspired by Ancient arms, armor and metalsmithing.

Here's a couple new pieces in my own 1084 / 15N20 damascus, Oosic and Sterling silver fittings.

Thanks for looking!

Great looking pieces. I think if I had to pick I would go with the darker handle on the btm. one.

from the site..

"The handle is Oosic with Sterling silver fittings. Oosic is fossilized walrus penis-bone"

I really love the looks of those knives, if i order one i just wont tell my friends the handle is made of walrus penis ;)

Gorgeous knives!!!!! Very distinctive styling, which is becoming hard to find. They also look very functional at the same time.

Fossilized weeners, huh? You can't get much more exotic (or erotic?)than that. As long as I don't go blind using the knife, I'm okay with it. And my wife wonders whether my knives are a subconscious extension of my tallywacker. If she finds out about these, she'll definitely be convinced.

Nice to get to see these knives here as well as on the CKD forum. I think these knives offer some of the best value I have seen. The only thing that I would like better would be if the design on the bolster was engraved rather than etched, but I realize that would cost more to do.

I love that twist damascus and how you get it to look so much like ladder.

Wow, great looking knives. I'll ditto what Buzzbait said in that they have a distinctive style yet still seem traditionally functional.

I have a couple of questions. First, on your site it says the top knive is a cannel grind. What is that? From the picture it looks like a convex grind with a secondary bevel.

My second question will sound dumb because I have no experience with damascus blades. On the Scandanavian grind bottom knife, if the knife was to be sharpened the way one would that type grind where the entire flat of the bevel is placed against the stone, would the damascus pattern disappear as one grinds away the top layers? I have no idea whether damascus patterns are visible only on the surface where they're etched or if they're visible throughout the interior of the blade.

(Personally I would never want to sharpen these myself as I would store them as art pieces to be admired and passed down as heirloom. But I ask out of intellectual curiosity).

Let me apologize upfront for this old, bad joke. If I rub the handles, will they turn into bowies? :)

Seriously, great looking knives. I especially like the grind on the top one.

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

Grape-

A cannel grind is the same as a convex. I'm afraid I don't follow you on the secondary bevel... it is rounded from spine to edge.

What I'm calling a 'Scandinavian Grind,' is more about the visual effect of letting the flat of the ricasso extend out along the length of the blade. The edge is sharpened separately from the ground section- small knives may be traditionally sharpened flat ( like a chisel,) but larger ones with engraving on the bevel or damascus are not; as you say it would destroy the pattern / embellishment.

So they can definitely be sharpened and used.. I firmly believe that objects of use can and should be objects of beauty.

For those of you not familiar with Oosic, it is an -excellent- handle material. It has been used as such since the early Viking era because it has a natural hole through the center like bone but is thicker... there is also a 'tackiness,' to it which makes for a good grip. It is incredibly solid and stable and usually quite expensive. For the time being I have a good source!

PS- Don't be afraid of it because it was once a weenie! You want a MANLY knife, right? Think Virile! :p

Good to see you stop by here Jon. Those knives are beautiful! The twist patterns are just awesome and I really like the etched silver. Knowing you, I'd expect that these little works of art cut pretty darn well too.

Gorgeous! I love oosic -- purely from an aesthetic perspective, you pervs. You don't see it around that much anymore, I figured it must be hard to get
