I have a piece of stabilized oosic that feels like it would be perfect for a puuko. My question is twofold- is oosic acceptable for a user puuko (no chopping- just cutting like the knife is designed for), and due to its porous nature I assume that using a filler like Brownells Acra-glass is the accepted adhesive for attachment (cocobolo bolster and butt).
Any ideas are greatly accepted (and if anybody has tips for finishing oosic I would love to hear them)
Thanks

Oosik is a classic material for Nordic and Inuit knives.Fill all the pores with epoxy (I tint it black) when the handle is shaped to nearly the final shape. It will make a smooth and good looking handle when finished and polished.Acra-glass is fine for any glued handle.Sand slow with fresh belts or by hand.Don't get too hot if you power buff,or it will burn.
Have a pretty girl stroke the handle and the puuko will turn into a bowie.

Niiiiice..... and I even have a pretty girl in the house with me!!!
The external pores are already sealed from the stabilization, so I only have to worry about the internal matrix, and I have no buffer so by hand it is. Thanks for the advice- I did not want to mess up my piece.

I'll probably get in trouble for this,but...
The pretty girl at home won't have the same effect on a piece of oosik as a pretty stranger.
I had a small ladies size hunter with a pinkish colored oosik handle and maidenhair damascus blade. All the ladies would pick it up and admire the handle, asking what it is.If it seems clear that they don't have any idea what it is I'd say "Oosik".If they scrunch up their eyebrows in non-understanding,I lean over and gently tell them what oosik is.Some put it down fast, and some call a friend over to show it to! If they pass it around a group of gals,I say," Careful,Ladies,if you all get to handling that knife its liable to turn into a Bowie." Some laugh and some don't get it.When one of them whispers the explanation to the confused one,you usually get a scream and a lot of laughter.
I sold the knife to a rather proper looking woman, who merely said (after the Bowie comment),"Really?,How much is it?"
