this is one i finished a couple years ago, and never had any decent photos of. Recently the owner agreed to send it back , let me re finish it (had blood stains from a deer on it), and send out for photography. I went with Mitchell Cohen for the photos , and im very pleased with his work.

The knife is a san mai of 01 and nickle over a high carbon core. the fittings are all the same 01 and nickle composition. The handle is walrus oosick.

The sheath was done by Robert Jones

Looks nice Andy,
I'm trying to figure out the steel. You say san-mai? I dont see that. Please expand on your technique for us Senior Citizens.

It's a nice knife, beautiful handle.

The steel... I have mixed feelings about that. Guess I would have to see it "live" to really know if I like it or not. As I see from the pic - I don't.

Kind regards,

Jos

Thanks fellas....and your senior citizen talent far surpasses my humble attempt at knife making...but I will explain. Apologies in advance for grammatical errors . I'm doing this from.my phone.

anyway. started with a piece of 01 , 3/4" thick 2 1/2" wide and.about 12" long. Laid out 1/8" holes uniformly every 1/2" across the.steel. then took Ni rods with the flux knocked of and stuck in each whole and peened both sides. (Couple hundred of.them) . Then welded. I then took half of what was welded and.made into flat stock and cut in two pieces. I surface ground the two pieces and tacked together with a piece of high carbon inbetween , forge welded and drew out. so it is a San Mai type construction. but it isn't intended to look that way. I had to.put a core in the so I could make sure I didn't have any nickel fall on the edge.

the guard and butt cap material was taken from the bIllet before the core was welded in.

Hope I didn't butcher that explanation to bad.

Andrew

Interesting procedure Andy. I like the unique look of the nickel rods. Nothing gives more contrast than nickel.
Love the guard and oosick handle too.
