Mr. Busse:
I have been meaning to shoot you an email for months now and just haven’t had a chance. I think now that I will just post it here for all to see instead. I thought a positive post would be a good step in light of some of the negativity that has been swirling around various forums the past week or so…
I just wanted to say THANKS for the top notch service that I always get when I deal with you and your employees, and for the quality knives that you and your staff produce.
I put on a “1000th Post Contest” awhile back and one of your staff (Amy-0) threw a custom made Cheesecake into the prize package, and followed up on her promise by express delivering a Key Lime Amy-0-Cake to the winner. Whenever I shoot an email to you or Garth or Amy, I get a response in fairly short order. I can’t say that about many of the other companies that I deal with.
I started out with my knife fanaticism researching World War II knives inherited from my father, and found that he only collected the best. He inherited some of those knives from his father and added to them, continuing to add knives from quality makers of the Vietnam and Desert Storm eras such as Ek, Randall, etc. He continued to add military issue and other hard-use knives like Chris Reeve to the mix. I wanted to pass on the tradition and be able to hand off his collection together with my additions to the next generation. Your knives are now part of the tradition. This came after much research, physical use, and input from folks in this forum and at knife shows.
The folks that collect and use your knives are some of the most rational, if not somewhat fanatical (is there such a thing as a rational fanatic?) folks that I have seen. They’re helpful, knowledgeable, and collectively remind me of the attitude and personality that I remember my dad having. They put up with a lot of abuse from the haters, but never seem to be hateful or abusive in return (sometimes they’re whiney – but the only way to combat a whiner is with a whine…it’s all whiners can relate to). It’s amazing to see the number of people that question Busse knives and the motives of Jerry Busse and Skunk and their “mysterious” business model, but more amazing to see how you and the majority of Busse followers respond – usually courteously, and with a polite invitation to check a knife out and see for themselves. I hardly ever see insults fly unless the offender is a serious TROLL.
Keep it up Jerry, and don’t change a thing!
Thanks,
CSK
