Ok , here is where I bare my soul for all to see , I must be purged.
For years now I have poopooed Spyderco's knives. Ever since fondling one at a gun show some years back I said "whats all the fuss about ??" and left it at that , perfectly content to stay in my little world of Buck and Gerber and odd military blades. Then last week I took the plunge and got my first Spyderco which I though was a fake but tuirned out to be quite real , after giving it away and getting it back monday I proceeded to slowly become amorous with the nifty little lockback. Then yesterday my Meerkat came in the mail and I lost control , after a few moments of fumbling about with the Phantom Lock I was in love ! I did strange dances and whirled about in the air like a mamdman , clutching the neat little knife against my chest like a long lost lover. That night I took my two newest prizes home to nurse and give them the love and attention they desire.
Soon I found myself mesmerized by the lovely science of the Phantom Lock , who could have made such a device I pondered ?? Surely this is a gift from the Heavens ! I exclaimed in joy. Then a little voice inside my head was telling me how much cooler my Byrd would look if I did some fielwork on the clip , I resisted at first but the voice grew louder until I was totally in it's grasp , whether good or evil |I shall never know for an hour later with the filework done the voice ceased and desisted. I took some 1000 and 1500 to the clip , lovingly polishing it as a cat licks its fur , soon I was holding at an angle in the sun-like gleam of the flourescent bulbs in my kitchen.

So to close this tail , I take back all the things I have said about Spyderco , here on a public forum , I say nay to the mere piece of humble pie and aye to an entire plateful !! :D  :p :) :) :D

You really need to check out a Native, I like the Native III, but they're all good. Compare a Military to a Para Military, see which you like best. Endura. Or Delica if the Endura's a bit large for what you need.

You know how many knives Spyderco makes? You're in trouble now.

Rebel, my man, you must get yourself a girlfriend... :) ;)

I think Spyderco knives have improved a lot in design in recent years. I never did like the older models with slick stainless steel scales. But the newer models like the Military, Chinook II, and Manix are fantastic.

This thread is on the verge of being a bodice ripper! :D

Bodice ripper hell....more like one of them harlequin romances on steroids that you only see in them 24 hour shops that have lots of X's in thier advertisements.... :D

I, too, have always resisted a Spyderco, but I'm thinking about taking the plunge... the Manix has caught my eye. It's the only Spyderco model that isn't too radivally styled for my tastes. It'll have to wait a few months though, I'm in the process of moving, so money is a little tight.

I am waiting on my first Spyderco, Tim Wegner folder. Got it on trade in the fourm. I have had no intrest in them either, until I seen this model, but I guess every once in a while something comes along.

Are ya sleepin' with your Spydies yet, ya know ya got it bad when ya go ta bed with one around your neck.

Don't fall asleep with the blade open, I woke up one morning complaining of a shrap sever chest pain  (heart attack), put my hand to my chest and when I saw the blood  I knew I was gonna be alright, the point of the blade was about 3/16" into my man boob. :o

In my roughly 7 years of being on BladeForums, yours is the funniest damm post I've ever read in my life!!!! :D

You'll find they kinda "grow" on you :D I bought my first one, an FRN Delica a couple of months ago, then I added a Native III and my Endura showed up early last week. I was also one of those that stayed away because I felt they were too task specific. When two of my knives got seized coming across the border, I started to look locally (it was starting to get to be a long time between purchases ;) ), decided to try one of the "super steel" blades and found that the Delica (VG-10) was priced about where I had some loose cash :D Up to that point, I had never really picked one up. When I was looking at the Endura, I made the mistake of picking up a Para Military - I hear it calling.......... :D Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending.....) I'll have to save for a bit. It is next on the list after my BM550 shows up.

Have fun - gord

Did you sacrifice a cardboard box to the knife gods? Welcome to the club.

I bought my first Spyderco (Dragonfly) about 3 months ago. I went out and bought the Delica and Endura within a couple of weeks and I love all 3 knives. Very sharp, well made and a good value. I'm trying to stay away from buying anymore knives for awhile, but I know it's only a matter of time before I get another Spyderco. I have had my eye on a Military for awhile.

Man, you guys are going to go absolutly apeshit when you finally decide topurchase a manix. Just wait... :D

The MeerKat is a fantastic knife! It is built rock solid and the handle merges with your hand. The Phantom lock is amazingly strong and probably one of the safest locking systems to come along. A Manix is definitely in my future. If it is built as solid as the MeerKat then I'm in for a real treat.
