Does anyone know how this guy is opening his buck 110 one handed. He does it really smooth near the end of the video.

I can open mine one handed by using the finger notch as a thumb stud, but not near as smooth and fast as this guy. Is it all technique? Do you think his 110 may be modified to open fast like that?

Sorry if this has come up before and thanks for the help.

PS -If you check out this guys uploaded videos, he has a really nice collection of 110 customs:thumbup:

I think I may have jumped the gun on this one. I am kind of getting the hang of it:foot: -not half as fast as him though.

Either way, he does open it up out of the sheath really fast, and he has a really nice collection of customs if that interests anyone.

There are sheaths designed to open a 110 when you remove it. Far as him opening with his thumb, makes me wonder if he has loosened the blade some.

I have been opening and closing mine one handed for years, but not that fast. I wonder if his thumb has callouses that match the nail nich..:rolleyes:

I too have seen sheaths for sale on ebay that claim to open your 110 when you remove it. Seems pretty cool. May have to get one of those and try it out.

I can open a 110 one-handed, but not like he does it.

I just hold the closed knife blade up, point away from me and flick the knife down while holding the blade between thumb and forefinger.

I don't believe the video if it's a normal 110......there has to be some modification or trickery going on there.

I'll back you on a dollars to doughnuts bet on that! He's modified the spring.

I knew a guy in the army that could do that. But he'd never let anyone else handle his Buck. One day he's in the shower and left his pants laying on his bunk. I go over and take his knife, and the spring is so light the blade almost falls out on its own. Problem is the lock does not hold to good either. Closing the knife you could just push like it was a strong slip joint and it would fold up. Not good.:thumbdn:

+ 1

We used to do the same thing with Italian stilettos back in the '60's...Bend the backspring up at the guard; file it down (sharp edge); then fit a small worm-drive clamp around the handle...Presto! A Flic-knife! :) You didn't need to even touch the blade...just snap your wrist, and it snicked out with a satisfying click! :D

Back when we were teenagers,(1970's) A friend of mine could flip his 110 open with his thumb. Problem was, It was never sharp at all. I let him try it with mine one day, and he sliced about half of his thumbprint right off! I never was in that big of a hurry to open mine!
I have one of those allen head thumbstuds that clamp on, But I don't like it and don't have it mounted on any of my 110's.

I think he's done something to the backspring; toward the end of the video, he opens the blade slightly, then seems to flick it open.

I'm with seaplane - I wouldn't want a weak backspring. I'd be afraid of the knife unlocking at the worst time.

thx - cpr

I like Buck 110's the way they come from the factory. If someone wants a switchblade, buy a switchblade. If someone wants a fixed blade, buy a fixed blade. If someone wants a Buck 110... :)

Not sure about the opening towards the end of the video, but the opening from the sheath at the beginning is definitely done with the aid of an "automatic sheath" (see link below)

Also, I really don't think the backspring has been "weakened." I have seen some of this guy's knives up close and personal and they were not altered. I think he is just darn good and has done a lot of practice!!

if my hands are full i hold the blade and jerk it open using the handle weight. and use my leg to close it.
