I'm new to Schrade collecting and the link to collectors-of-schrades-r.us is a very useful way to get some education on this company's history. One question I have is what does the term "open stock" mean?

The Open Stock term is used to loosely describe the standard issue folding knives made by Schrade which were not Uncle Henry, Old Timer, Limited Edition or Scrimshaw. The first I see Schrade use the term is in the 1974 Catalog. That may have been when the term "Open Stock" was started, but now it is used to include the same patterns made in the Schrade Walden years, from 1946 to 1973.
