Opening a large Sebenza

I have been experimenting a bit with opening my large Sebenza. The problem I had initially is that at the start of an open cycle there is a jerk/pause in the action. I felt I should be able to open the knife without any pause or jerkiness; it should be one smooth motion from closed to open. What I have found works for me is the following:

1. Place tip of thumb on side of lug with the thumb pad touching the frame
2. Push outward on the lug.
3. As you push outward turn the thumb down onto the blade (with the lug as a pivot). The objective is to have the thumb pad press firmly against the blade to provide additional leverage. Use the lug as well as the thumb pad friction to further open the blade. This is the critical move that eliminates that irksome initial pause.
4. As you open the knife the thumb pad should naturaly come off the blade.

Edit - As Dave mentions below be careful of the knife edge. Make sure your thumb pad lifts off (or at least stays away from knife edge) as the knife continues to open.

Regrettably I do not have a camera to post a video of it.

What advice/technique can you offer for achieving a consistent and smooth opening action without any pauses?

Cheers.

I've been doing that for a while, MAKE SURE that you place the thumb far enough up on the blade. I've sliced layers off my thumb by placing my thumb too near the edge as it swings open.

Dave, You are absolutely right. Need to find that angle that keeps the thumb away from the knife edge. Thanks.

Sounds like you have it right. Part of the initial resistance you feel might be the ball detente that keeps the blade in place when closed. I find this comforting.
