Opening a RH Umnumzaan with your left hand

After years of denial that I wanted one and then literally over a year of looking and missing out on new ones, I’ve finally acquired a right handed Umnumzaan. I have to have dual lugs on all my CRK folders (minus the Mnandi, of course) and that was part of the reason I caved on the zaan. I’ve only had it a few days, but it is a PITA to open left handed. I feel like the left hand lug is tucked into the lock bar to the point I can’t get to it like I can a dual lugged Regular, 21, 25 or 31.

I’ve looked through old posts, but found no real solution for how to open a zaan off-handed. Any advice I’m missing? Right now I’m using a combo of thumb pressure on the lug while applying index finger pressure on the glass breaker (like a front flipper) to get it started and going from there.

Yeah, I once had a right handed umnumzaan. Being left handed, I couldn’t open it left handed. I sold it and went on the hunt for a lefty. It’s the only CRK that I’ve ever owned that isn’t suitable for either hand opening.
I feel your pain, unfortunately, there’s not a good way to open with your off hand. Like you, my right handed CRK’s were double lug for that very same reason because left handed CRK’s were rare several years ago. But, eventually I was able to pick up a few lefty umnumzaan’s

Thanks for the vid Lone Wolfe. I think if the lock bar on the newer Zaans were still like the older ones, I’d have no problem opening a RH one with my left hand. The newer ones have the pin tucked into the lock bar so it’s harder to get enough of my thumb on it to push it open.
